The BC OGRIS is continuing its support of the Institute of Geoenergy Engineering at Heriot Watt University’s study of the oxidation of fugitive methane in natural soils of British Columbia. This phase of the project will consider seasonal variability in extents of methane emissions and soils-based oxidation and compare to relatively high rates of oxidation observed in the summertime. A risk assessment will be carried out to determine potential environmental risks, impacts, and possible management strategies. Lastly, workshops and/or seminars will be delivered to disseminate the learnings and knowledge of integrity compromised wells and fugitive gas leakage in B.C.

More information on this project is available on the Active Projects page of this website (under Engineering and Safety Research--Wells).
